Summer Learning Journey Descriptive Writing

The next step of learning about the summer learning journey was to find another picture, colour it in and describe it. e.g shapes, lines, colours, texture, whats in the background...

You can see that this drawing is pretty plain. But the paint has a good texture on the pyramid and a little bit of texture on the sand. The background is just a blue sky with the pyramid and sand. My eye catches onto the little mountains on the right hand side far back behind the pyramid. There are lines that separate the sky from the sand and the 3 dimensional triangle. The colours there are not to many of either but they blend together nicely and they look good side by side.

Online Art

Today Mrs Torrie came into room 4 along with room 3 and she talked to us about the Summer Learning Journey. The summer learning journey is when people set you tasks every week and you learn it, create it, then share it on your blog.

My colours I choose are really summery vibes then the dark blue and green in the background level out the colours.

Kiwi Pavlova

Today the year sevens went in pairs and used postermywall to create a homemade ice cream of our choice. We had to have more than one flavour and there has to be one fresh ingredient involved through the sweet. My partner was Jaimee and we decided to make a classic kiwi Pavlova ice cream. Tomorrow we will be making the proper ice cream during food tech.

This is how our poster turned out.

Athletics Day 2020

Last week Matawai School had an action packed week with Ag Day and Athletics. But athletics was the most challenging part of last week.

We started off by lining up in our year groups with a whole lot of other schools and then all the year groups spread off into different sports activities. The year sevens rushed off to highjump. There were only 3 year seven girls from Matawai plus other girls from the different schools. I was proud of how I did but I was also proud of Hayley and Jaimee’s effort because we came top three for high jump. Jaimee = 1st, Hayley =2nd and me ( Rylee ) = 3rd.

Shotput was up next and that is my least favorite activity for athletics because I don’t have the right technique so it either ends up as a throw or it just doesn't go very far at ALL! Anyway the lady put us into our order that our names were printed and I was the 2nd girl to go. My first shot out of 2 Kate the sports lady clarified it as too much of a throw and she said I could do better. My last shot was perfect and one of the boys ran a measuring tape out and I got approximately 7 - 8 meters.

Slowly walking with Hayley around the high jumpers as we rotated over to the long jump. We got back in our order and the boys were desperate for the girls to go first and they were saying “ladies first.” So we lined up. My heart was beating faster than a blink of an eye and before I knew it I was up. My first jump got about 3 meters then when I went for my second jump I got 1cm less than my first jump.

We headed over to the discus and we waited about 45 minutes to have our turn. And when we arrived over there the year 8’s were still waiting for their turn. So after a long time of waiting later I picked up the discus and threw it. But little did I know that Hayley’s Dad was  taking pictures of us when we threw the discus. He called them our ballerina poses. After my two throws my longest one was 11.2 meters.

Our last thing we had to do was… dun dun dunnnn!!! Sprints. So basically I didn’t get any placings in the sprints but I wasn’t very far behind Zoe Newman in every race. But I tried my hardest and am looking forward to doing it again next year, my final athletics at Matawai.

To finish the day I went and bought Hayley and myself a refreshing juicy ice block and did the team relays. My team did really well and got a solid third. My team had Hohepa, Jaimee, Maranga and myself. That's how I ended a wonderful day.

Pop Art Online

Today our cybersmart teacher ( Mrs Torrie ) saw how room 4 had done pop art with Mrs Allan in term 2 2020 and all our art was put up on the wall. Since Mrs Torrie teaches computer stuff so she got us to use the app called Lunapic which is a photo editing app and it's really cool.

Spooky Halloween Story Starters

Today for our writing we got given a task. We had to make as many spooky story starters  as we wanted. After we had finished writing we had to buddy up with a partner  and debate on what one was the best. There were only nine kids in my class today but we all went in completely different directions on what topics to write about. Everyone's turned out really cool and some people got the shivers from reading them.
And this is the one that I choose...

Tips Tricks & Fun With Rylee

Today in cyber smart room 4 carried on building our jingle brand which is when you make your own logo sort of thing. We started off a few weeks back by set out how we wanted it to look on a google drawing. We also had to take a selfie of ourselves then cropped it with remove background, so it wouldn't take up all the space on the wevideo. My jingle includes some music, text boxes and Sophia and myself talking at the end.

My Magnificent Wooden Stool

After lock down when kids came back to school, on Wednesdays Room 4 did Tech and these are sewing, cooking and woodwork. The year sevens which was Jaimee, Duncan, Hayley and myself did woodwork with Peter who was the woodwork teacher. We started making stools and they are about 25cm tall and around 30cm wide. To make our stools it took 9 weeks so that means 9 days. All of the skills we used to make this stool was... sawing, measuring, gluing, staining the wood, sanding and drilling holes. It was a really fun process to go through along beside friends.
Today was our last session in woodwork and next up is cooking with Mrs Bennett.
This is how my magnificent wooden stool turned out...

Creating My Own Music

Last week with our cybersmart teacher, Room 4 got introduced to a song website called 'Soundtrap'. First we had to find a picture of either an animal or a sport or something that we like. I finally chose a picture of a running cheetah. When we were making our music it had to match the mood of your picture. It was really confusing at the start for all of us, so we all struggled a bit but also had a lot of fun playing around and making beats. When we had finished our sound we had to fiddle around a little bit so we could add our beats onto the picture. The one main thing that I found challenging during this process would have to be getting the hang of the whole app.
AND HERE'S MY FINAL PRODUCT . . .

5 Resons Why Living In The Country Is Better Than Town

With some of our writing with Mrs Bennett we did persuasive writing which is a type of writing when you and another person is debating on something like e.g Zoos should be banned.
We are trying to convince our audience to think something the same way as us and see our point of view.

Hypertufa Pots

Last Thursday with Mrs Allan room four started to make Hypertufa pots and how we did that was . . .
Firstly we got a bit of cardboard and we shaped it into any kind of shape, I just did a simple square. Once you had your shape you put tape on it to keep the shape in place. Then you completely cover the cardboard on the outside and the inside. Once you have done that you grab another bit of cardboard to place on the bottom. You stick the bottom to the shape with loads of tape so it doesn't leak out. We had to make a small hole with our pencil at the bottom of the cardboard for a place for water to drip out of.

Then we mixed together perlite, concrete, water and Pete so it was in between lumpy and watery. Before we put any concrete into the cardboard we got some blue tack and a round container that fits perfectly inside of the cardboard. We made the bit of blue tack about 2cm long and stuck it into the hole we made and balanced the container on top. We carefully packed the concrete down the sides and at the bottom of the cardboard.

After 1 week we went up to the shade house where we had kept our Hypertufa pots. Room four rushed back to class to destroy our creations so we could get our pot out.
They look really cool but now our class smells like a garden centre.

Best Tech Yet

Today for tech the year 7's woodwork teacher was sick so our principal was going to do something with us. Mr Knight choose to do robotics with us. We had one and 1/2 hours to complete out robots and we were going to have a soccer game with them. Our teams were Duncan, Maranga and Jaimee then Hayley and myself. The skill we were focusing on was teamwork. Neither of the teams had finished our creations so Mr Knight said he will find some time so we can finish our robots and have a big soccer game. It was really hard to find the pieces that we needed and also how to connect the batteries. Overall it was really fun and a great way to fill in our tech time.
Here's the robot Hayley and I are close to finishing . . .

Print Making

Today I finished the print bock part of my print making which was my maths for the last few Thursdays with Mrs Allan. Once I had finished putting the ink onto the lino I had to be very careful because I had to use a lino cutter so I could get rid of bits of the lino. I used the lino cutter to get rid of the whole background and made it a really rough texture.
Here is my art so far

My Yeast Gif

Today in cyber smart our teacher Mrs Torrie knew what Mrs Bennett had started teaching us. We did a experiment using yeast. In class one day this week we got 4 bottles and filled them all up 3/4 of the way with water. One with cold water, one with warm water, one slightly warmer and the last one out of a kettle. After we did that, we tested the water to see the temperature and put the temperature on each bottle. We added around 1 tsp of sugar to each bottle of water. Then put in some yeast so it could make carbon dioxide. Straight away we put a balloon onto the top so it can blow up the balloon.

But in cyber smart today we made an awesome GIF showing our class experiment we did then show it on a Chromebook.

Reading A Story For Room 1

The last few Thursdays with Mrs Allan, we have been doing loads of really fun things. One of those things were reading a book for the little kids in our school. We had to read the book into a device while it was videoing us. Next up we had to take photos of every page in the book and line the photos up with my reading on the editing app. I used Wevideo so Room 1 can listen to it. And if they wanted to they could get the same book from our school library and follow on with the words.
HERE'S MINE . . .

My Amazing Street Art

When everyone came back to school after lock down, Room 4's very first art project was a bit of art called street art. Mrs Bennett showed us some images off google so we knew what we were really doing. During my progress of making my street art I used . . .
- Water colour
- Fine black pen to go around the outline
- Colouring in pencils
That's all I used to make my creation but everyone else in Room 4 made there street art completely different.
Here is my street art...

The Finest 3 Ingredient Chocolate Cake In A Cup

The Finest 3 Ingredient Chocolate Cake In A Cup -
Today when I was on my chrome book I went on YouTube for half an hour. On 5 - minute crafts and one of the videos I found a cake in a cup. I went straight to the kitchen and tried it. In our cupboards we had no nutella so I used about ¼ of a cup of chocolate chips.

Ingredients -
1 big spoon of Nutella / any kind of melted chocolate
1 egg
½ tablespoons of plain flour

1. Keep on mixing your batter until it looks like a real cake batter.
2. Place the mixture in the cup into the microwave for 1 minute.
3. Take it out of the microwave and make some cream to put on top ( optional )
4. Taste and enjoy!!!

Blog Post Graph

Kia Ora
Today we were learning how to make graphs with anything but today we did our blog posts with our 2019 and 2020.

You can see that in December 2019 I have the most blog posts and in 5 other months I have done no blog posts. August 2019 and October has the same amount posts just like March 2020 and June 2019 has the same amount of posts.

This is our class one the same as the one above but we put all the class's blog posts in 2019 and 2020. Hayley has lots of blog posts but she had an advantage because she did the Summer Learning Journey.
As you can see Myself and Violet has both done 39 blog posts and Hayley has done 82 blog posts more than me.

I enjoyed comparing the amount of blog posts.
Have you ever made a graph?

This is what it looks like at the moment. We are just waiting for some stock to chew it all down.
Does your school have a bike track?

Weet- bix Tryathlon

People were cheering on their kids from the sideline while me and Jessica were waiting patiently with excitement, the nerves were kicking in even though we were the last group. We lined up like brave soldiers. (even though it was only a Weet-bix Tryathlon not war) before we knew it these words came out of a man's mouth . . . ON YOUR MARKS GET SET GO!! So a group of 11 year old girls sprinted into the pool. The bright light beaming on us.

We ran out ripping our cap off. I threw it to Jessica's auntie running to the bikes searching for my bike. I found it wandering out to the road so I could jump on and take off. There were many people cheering for me. The 1st lap was done for the 2nd lap I sighed. Jessica and I put our arms together and made a bridge and the people took a photo. We were getting close to the Olympic pools. We jumped off our bike and put it away as we started to sprint to the finish.

We grabbed a drink of water on the way to the finish then threw it onto the ground. Heading towards the finish line people were cheering and yelling. COME ON YOU CAN DO IT! We carried on and strived for the end. Crossing the finish line felt like a relief, getting the medal made me feel I did really well.
