1. In any type of jar fill it up 3/4 of the way with any kind of cooking oil.
2. In another bowl pour around 1/4 cup of white vinegar and add a food colouring then mix.
3. When you are adding the food colouring add it until the colour is quite dark.
4. Put in the baking soda after you have combined all the ingredients.
4. This is what it will hopefully turn out like . . .
Hi Rylee
ReplyDeleteYour lava lamp looks great I will have to try this sometime. Can you re-read instruction 1 and fix it up? I don't know what to put in the jar to 3/4 fill it up.
Thanks Mrs Bayley
Hi Mrs Bayley
DeleteYou really should try it sometime it is quite cool.
Sorry I completely forgot it is oil. I'll fix it up now.
Thank you
Rylee
Good Morning Hayley
ReplyDeleteYour lamp is very effective, I love that you have added a video to your post so we can see the science in action.
Could you relook at step number one of your instructions?...I am unsure what you put into the jar to begin this experiment.
Is there a special way you combine the coloured vinegar into the jar, or do you just pour it straight in?
Is the lava lamp sitting beside your bed? I bet Arlo will love watching the movement inside the jar.
Well done
Mrs Bennett
Hi Mrs Bennett
ReplyDeleteYou could me Hayley HAHAHA!!!
I fix step number 1 but it is any cooking oil. unfortunately the lava lamp only goes for about 5 minutes but Arlo loved watching it when it went. There is no special technique to pour in the coloured vinegar into the oil. But you put the baking soda in last.
Thank you
Rylee
I am so sorry Rylee
DeleteJust like in the classroom, I am still confusing you and Hayley!!!!!
Thankyou for fixing up step one...that makes better sense.
Do you think you understand what is happening to create the movement inside the jar?
Mrs Bennett
Hi Mrs Bennett,
ReplyDeleteYour still teaching yourself who I am and who Hayley is. HAHAHA!!!!
Also I am going to start studying what was happening in the jar. Then put it on my blog.
Thank you
Rylee
Hi Rylee,
ReplyDeleteThanks for those instructions, this looks very mesmerising. I have seen something similar and would have to do a bit of searching to find the instructions. But the idea was, you put oil based and water based food colouring I think along with 2 colours e.g. blue and red and when you shake it it turns purple but if you leave it to settle the colours will seperate again.
